GEORGE MARTIN HENDEL
It is with great fondness and cherished memories that we announce the peaceful passing of George Martin Hendel on February 24, 2025, at the age of 83. George was a lifelong resident of Ontario, born on November 20, 1941, in Houghton Township, and spent his final years in the compassionate care of Terrace Lodge Nursing Home in Aylmer, Ontario.
He is survived by his brothers, Martin and his wife Lynda of Cultus, John of Tillsonburg, and Danny of Tillsonburg. George was the cherished uncle to Jennifer Debruyn and her husband Derek, along with Chris Hendel and his wife Brenda. He was also a beloved great uncle to six great nieces and nephews who will miss his gentle presence dearly. George was predeceased by his parents, Martin Hendel Sr. (1972) and Rosina Hendel (1975), and his young brother David (1960).
His early years were spent on the family tobacco farm, where he developed a lifelong passion for agriculture. This connection to the land and its yield was a constant source of joy for George, and he would often engage in lively discussions about tobacco farming, sharing tales from the fields that shaped his youth.
After his years on the farm, George moved to Tillsonburg, where he continued to live with an enduring appreciation for the community and its people. Eventually, he made his home at Terrace Lodge, where he became a cherished member of the community. His affable nature made him a friend to many, and he was always ready to recount stories of classic cars and the glory days of farming.
The Hendel family extends their gratitude to the staff at Terrace Lodge Nursing Home for their unwavering care and support throughout George’s residency. Their kindness and dedication were a source of comfort to George and his family during his final years.
George Martin Hendel’s life will be remembered and celebrated in private by his family. His spirit will live on in the hearts of those who loved him, and the stories of his life will continue to inspire and comfort us all. George’s journey on this earth has come to a gentle close, but the memories he created will forever be a part of the rich tapestry of our lives
In keeping with George’s wishes, cremation has taken place and there will be no visitation or service. Memorial donations to the Cultus United Church may be made directly online or by contacting Ostrander’s Funeral Home (519-842-5221) who have been entrusted with George’s arrangements.
