Obituary
Lockhart, George Andrew – 96, South Pugwash – passed away peacefully with his family by his side, on January 21, 2025, at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst. Born on the Gulf Shore he was a son of the late John and Mary “ Nellie” (Canfield) Lockhart.
George worked hard and loved helping others. His garage doors were always open. His greatest love was his family; spending hours with them, whether it was skating on the rink he built, playing ball on the field he created or flying his plane on the runway he managed. He was a man of many talents; he was a pilot, fisherman, welder, miner (with over 25 years at the Windsor Salt Company), used car dealer, mechanic and inventor. “If he could dream it he could build it.” George got a great deal of pleasure participating in the July 1st parades, (winning first place in five parades), playing auction forty-fives and spending hours in the sky flying.
He is survived by his partner, Doris Ryan; daughters, Judy Lockhart, Betty Blackie, Sandra (Marty) Rushton; sons, Eric (Charlene) Lockhart, Myron Lockhart, Brian Lockhart (Debbie Kew); grandchildren, Michelle Rushton, Mandy and Georgie Blackie, Andrew Lockhart, Rachel Pelham, Tyler and Nicholos Lockhart, Matthew Lockhart; nine great grandchildren; brothers, Joe (Eleanor) Lockhart and Jim Lockhart; several nieces and nephews.
Besides his parents he was predeceased by his wife, Lois (Sarson) Lockhart; son-in-law, Ian Blackie; sisters, Viva Clark and Dot Casson; sister-in-law, Sherry Lockhart.
George’s love of life and his adventurous, creative spirit is an inspiration to us all.
A heartfelt thank you to Dr. Peter Blaikie and his staff in Pugwash and the staff at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre in Amherst for their love and care.
Donations in memory may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
A Celebration of Life will be held at Mundle’s Funeral Home followed by a reception at the Pugwash and District Volunteer Fire Hall in the very near future. Date and time to be announced.
