Remembering Georg
It is with deep sadness that we share the sudden passing of Georg Vanderslyk on January 22, 2025, at the age of 85. Georg’s adventurous heart led him to Canada in his 20s. He explored every corner of the country before finding home in Nova Scotia, where he built a life full of love, laughter, and purpose. A man of endless talents, Georg could do just about anything—he was a woodsman, a business owner, a fixer of all things, and so much more. His hands were always busy, whether tinkering in his workshop, fixing something for a friend or neighbour.
Georg wasn’t just a jack-of-all-trades; he was the guy who could make anyone feel at ease. His workshop was always open, and you’d often find him there, a beer in hand, cracking jokes and swapping stories. He had a knack for making people laugh, and his warmth and humor made him a joy to be around.
Above all, Georg was devoted to his family. He deeply valued his late wife, Julie, his children—John, Leonard, and Kea—and his grandchildren, Garrette (Maggie) and Ellysa, who brought him immense pride. He never missed a chance to show how much they meant to him. Georg is also survived by his sisters Hanna (Garmt), Boukje and brother Janus, each of whom held a special place in his heart.
Georg had a way of leaving an imprint on everyone he met. His laugh, his stories, his kindness—they’re pieces of him we’ll carry with us forever.
A celebration of Georg’s incredible life will be held at a later date, to be announced. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Coulter’s Funeral Home in Tatamagouche.
We’ll hold you in our hearts forever, Georg. Thank you for all the love, laughter, and memories. You’ll always be with us.
