It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Genevieve Toni (Hanoski) in her sleep on February 14th, 2025 at Keedwell Assisted Living in Saskatoon Saskatchewan. Genevieve was born on December 7, 1928 in Regina Saskatchewan. Mom was adopted by Rose and Jacob Hanoski in August 1929 and raised on the family farm 3 miles north of Spring Valley Saskatchewan. Mom went to Artesian School in Spring Valley riding her bike in the warm weather and her horse in winter.
During the war, Genevieve worked as a waitress at the Exchange Café at the corner of Main and Manitoba Streets in Moose Jaw and lived with her future sister in-law Elizabeth Toni. Mom married Wesley Toni on September 25, 1945 and they lived on and farmed the Hanoski Farm until September 30, 1960 when they moved to Moose Jaw.
In Moose Jaw mom worked as a cashier at Loblaws and Dad worked in a variety of departments at the Air Base south of Moose Jaw. After leaving Loblaws mom continued with her love of sewing. She was an accomplished seamstress sewing many wedding dresses even repairing a wedding dress sewn by someone else. Mom loved caring for her grandchildren while fitting in her love of sewing. Mom and Dad had a family of 5: Dale, Brian, Leslie, Blaine and Sheila. After retirement they enjoyed many winters in Palm Springs with family and friends at their winter home.
Genevieve was predeceased by her parents Jack and Rose Hanoski, her Husband Wesley in 2000 and her son Brian in 2001. She leaves to mourn her sons Dale (Carol), Leslie, Blaine (Glennis) daughter Sheila, brother Howard Collins (Verda), sisters in-law Agnes Toni and Eva Toni and 14 Grandchildren and 17 Great Grandchildren.
The family thanks the staff and caregivers at Aspira West Park Crossing in Moose Jaw for the love mom felt while she was in their care. Mom moved to Saskatoon and spent her last year at Keedwell Assisted Living where she received home like care and love.
The Funeral Mass will be held at St Augustine Parish Church, 602 Boychuk Drive Saskatoon on Saturday March 1 at 11:00am. A celebration of Life and Burial will take place in Moose Jaw at a later date (to be announced later) near the end of June 2025.
