Gary Beaman Martelle
Gary Beaman Martelle of London, Ontario and formerly of Wallacetown, passed away on March 25th, 2025, at London Health Sciences Centre, University Hospital at the age of 87. Beloved son of the late Ezra Beaman Martelle and Hazel Velma Martelle (nee Halpin). Predeceased by his sister Laura Agnes Bint Martelle O’Hearn and husband Hirafim O’Hearn. At Gary’s request, there will be no formal funeral service.
Gary received his education at SS#13 Dunwich Township (Wallacetown), Dutton Highschool, West Elgin District High School, West Lorne, The London Normal School, The University of Western Ontario, Lenore Stevens Keillor Music Studio, The Royal Conservatory Music Toronto, and the Ontario College of Art, Toronto.
A two time medal winner for the highest marks in Ontario and Elgin county for piano forte examinations, presented by the Royal Conservatory of Music and the St. Thomas evening music club.
A retired teacher and a member of the Elgin Retired Teachers of Ontario, District 41. Mr. Martelle retired in 1992, after 35 years of teaching in the city of St. Thomas and as itinerant music teacher in 5 rural schools in Elgin county, Iona Station, Wallacetown, Tyrconnell and Coynes corners.
A former organist and choir director at St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Wallacetown, St. Peter’s Anglican Church, Tryconnel, and St. Anglican Church, St. Thomas. Mr. Martelle is survived by his close friends, colleagues and cousins.
Arrangements entrusted to Denning’s of Forest. A private family interment will take place at Pinehill Cemetery, Thedford, Ontario.
