We are saddened to share that Garry Gerard Molloy, aged 69 years, passed away peacefully at the Health Sciences Center on January 13, 2024. Garry had struggled with health issues in his later years but coped with a lot of patience and good humor.
Pre-deceased by his parents Albert and Anastasia (née Ryan) Molloy, his brother Leo, his sisters Anne (Bennett) and Shirley (Dean), brothers-in-law Brian Kielly and Kevin Bennett, and cousin Donnie Ryan, Garry leaves to mourn his sisters Bertha (Bill) Hartery, Donna (Bill) Pike, and Valerie Kielly, his sister-in-law Marlie Molloy, brother-in-law Aloysius Dean, as well as many beloved nieces and nephews.
Born and raised in Portugal Cove South, Garry lived much of his life on the sea, whether inshore fishing with his father or on draggers from the FPI fish plant. Later he took on work farther afield including in Greenland. Garry loved to spend time with friends and family at get-togethers for cards, darts or a dance. He was easy-going and kind-hearted, and always ready for a yarn or a joke. He was cherished as a son, brother, friend and uncle. Garry spent his later years at Alderwood Retirement Centre, where he enjoyed social activities with friends old and new. He was very grateful for the kind and thoughtful work of the staff at Alderwood.
Visitation will take place at Fahey’s Funeral Home in Trepassey on Saturday January 25 from 2 pm until 8 pm. The funeral will be held on Sunday January 26 at 11:30 am in Trepassey church, followed by burial in Holy Rosary Cemetery in Portugal Cove South.
Flowers gratefully accepted or donations in Garry’s memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
