Obituary of Garrett John Yates
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Garrett John Yates of Saint John, NB, at the age of 32. Born on May 20, 1993, in Miramichi, NB, Garrett lived a vibrant and passionate life, filled with deep connections and boundless energy.
From a young age, Garrett excelled in everything he did—hockey, lacrosse, video games, and above all, forming lasting friendships. His magnetic personality and enormous heart drew people in wherever he went. Even during his own struggles, Garrett always took the time to ask others how they were doing, offering his warmth and support without hesitation.
Garrett worked in the landscaping and construction industries, careers that matched his love of the outdoors and his need for freedom. He was happiest under the open sky, working with his hands and surrounded by nature.
He will be deeply missed for his beautiful smile, infectious laughter, and bone-crushing hugs. Garrett’s legacy of kindness continues through his selfless decision to be an organ donor. In our deepest sorrow, we find comfort in knowing that he will bring hope and healing to others.
Garrett is survived by his mother, Cindy Green (Andrew); father, John Yates (Lisa); siblings, Nathan (Kelsey) Yates, Lucas Yates, Kaley, and Kyle MacMullin; his grandfather, Robert Chapman; uncles; Mark (Virginia) Chapman, Andrew (Stacy) Yates; aunt, Carolyn (Doug) Mullin; niece, Ava Yates; as well as cousins, Joel, Colin, Tyler, Maggie, Reilly, Quinn, and Liam.
He was predeceased by his beloved grandparents, Sheila Chapman, and Jack and Isobel Yates.
In keeping with Garrett’s wishes, there will be no visitation. A private family Celebration of Life will be held on July 10, 2025, to honour his memory.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Canadian Mental Health Association – NB or The Humanity Project (Moncton).
