Garfield Dwight Hawkes
1953-2025
The passing of Garfield Dwight Hawkes, loving husband of
Martha (Leavitt) Hawkes of Blacks Harbour NB, occurred at the
Charlotte County Hospital, St. Stephen NB on January 23, 2025 with his
loving family at his side.
Born in Bath NB on May 20, 1953, he was a son of the late
Cecil and Dorothy (Hatheway) Hawkes. In addition to his loving and
devoted wife of 45 years, Martha, Garfield will be lovingly remembered
by his children: Shelly (Scott) of Carlingford NB, Dwight (Jacob) of
Saint John NB and Samantha (Jared) and Cassandra both of Blacks
Harbour NB; his grandchildren: Martina, Sarah-Lee (Josh), Austin,
Gabrielle and Connor; great-grandchildren: Brycen, Jade, Julia,
Brayden, Brandi and Aiden; his siblings: Larry (Ernestine), Albert
(Mona) and Linda Mean (Ricky); one sister-in-law: Shirley Hawkes; and
many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Besides his parents, Garfield was predeceased by his
siblings: Robert, James and Sheila.
Prior to retirement, Garfield worked in various sectors
including local lumber mills and for Connor’s Brothers in
Blacks Harbour. A true family man, he loved to be surrounded by his
family and enjoyed teasing them any chance he had. He was an avid
outdoorsman, who in his younger days, enjoyed both hunting and fishing
and looked forward to going for his daily drives. In his quiet time,
Garfield enjoyed doing puzzles. His love, devotion, sense of humor and
warm smile will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved
him.
Arrangements in the care of the St. George Funeral Home
(755-3533) 26 Portage Street, St. George NB. Resting at the funeral
home with visiting on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. A service will take
place from the funeral home chapel on Monay at 3:00 pm. In
Garfield’s memory, donations to a charity of the
donor’s choice would be appreciated by the family.
