Fritz Dahl was born in Aarhus, Denmark, After completing his schooling, he worked in an office but soon realized it wasn’t for him. In February 1959, Fritz joined the Danish Air Force as a Radio Technician, where his interest in flying grew. He trained to fly Chipmunks and was accepted into the Royal Danish Air Force Pilot Training Program in 1960. In 1961, he attended language school in Centralia, Ontario, followed by NATO Flight Training in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, where he met his future wife, Gwen. They married in 1962 and after returning to Denmark in 1963, Fritz flew the Catalina for Search and Rescue. Their daughter, Karen, was born in 1964. After completing his Air Force contract, Fritz joined Canadian Pacific Airlines in 1967, moving his family to Vancouver area, where their son, Kevin, was born in 1975. Fritz flew for CPAir, which later became Air Canada and in 2000 he retired after a 34-year career as a Captain on the 747.
After his retirement, he continued to enjoy the simple pleasures of life with his beloved wife, Gwen, their children and their grandchildren, who loving called him Papa, always cherishing the memories of a life well-lived in the skies.
