Fredrick “Fred” Mastelero, known affectionately as Dicky to his close friends and family, passed away on January 23, 2025, in Edmonton, Alberta, at the age of 57. Born on September 26, 1967, in Quezon City, Philippines, Fred’s journey was one marked by love, dedication, and a zest for life that touched everyone he met.
Fred’s early years in the Philippines were the foundation of a life characterized by hard work and perseverance. He studied at Technological Institute of the Philippines. His passion for his craft led him to further his education at Northwest Community College in Prince Rupert, BC, where he completed a welding program between 1996 and 2000. Fred’s commitment to excellence was evident in his attainment of various certifications and his distinguished status as an interprovincial Red Seal Journeyman Welder.

His specialized skills were instrumental in the success of numerous projects across diverse industries such as gas and oil, manufacturing, power generating plants, refineries, pulp and paper, and shipping. In addition to his professional accomplishments, Fred found joy in the art of magic and delighted many as a part-time magician in 2011 (one time gig).
Fred’s life was a tapestry of interests and hobbies that reflected his adventurous spirit. He was an avid camper, movie enthusiast, and kayaker. His love for biking, walking, filmography, photography, and hiking was only matched by his passion for traveling and spending precious time with his loved ones. An avid fan of drones and helicopters, Fred also had a remarkable talent for cooking and baking, becoming famous among friends and family for his sinigang, bread pudding, and spaghetti. His love for snacking, especially on chips, was well-known and always a source of lighthearted conversation.
A loving husband, son, brother, father, and grandfather, Fred’s memory will be cherished by his wife Sylvia; his mother Virginia; his siblings Irene Mombay, Ruby Gallipani, Erma Alba, Freddie Mastelero, Lilet Mastelero, Michael Mastelero, and Hanna Mastelero; his daughters Kathryn Liew, Kristine, and Nicole Mastelero; and his grandchildren Camron and Malaieja Mastelero, Emilee, Elia, and Theodore Liew, and Lauran and Kailen Felipe. He was predeceased by his father, Alfredo Mastelero.
