Obituary of Frederick Joseph McBride
It is with heavy hearts that the family of Frederick Joseph McBride announce his passing which occurred on Sunday, February 16, 2025, at Saint John Regional Hospital, Saint John, NB. Born on March 21, 1946, in Saint John, NB, Fred was the son of the late Edward and Regina (O’Brien) McBride.
Fred fought a hard battle with a long-term illness and lived the remaining days of his life with dignity and grace. He made a special effort to offer kind words to those who were caring for him.
He worked at the shipyard for many years and spent a lot of his time giving back. He volunteered at Romero House, Thursday night bingo, and was a dedicated member of St. Alphonsus Catholic Church.
Fred was a longtime member of the Knights of Columbus and the Fourth Degree Assembly. He served as Grand Knight and was committed to the values of charity and unity. His service to the Church and community was important to him, and he took great pride in being part of these organizations.
Above all, Fred loved his family. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and uncle who found his greatest joy in time spent with his loved ones. He had a close relationship with his nephew, Shannon McBride, and his family, and he was always there for the people he cared about. His grandchildren were especially dear to him, and he never missed a chance to be part of their lives. Whether it was a family gathering, a sports event, a quiet moment watching nature, or simply sharing a meal, Fred valued the time he had with those he loved.
Fred also had a deep appreciation for nature. He loved being outside, watching the deer come and go, and made sure the deer and the crows never went hungry. He had a routine of feeding them and always looked forward to their visits. It was one of the simple joys in his life, and he never tired of watching the wildlife in his own backyard.
Anyone who knew Fred, knew exactly where to find him on multiple nights of the week. He was a faithful supporter of our local hockey teams with season tickets to both the Flames and the Seadogs. He loved hockey in Harbour Station (TD Station).
We would like to offer a heart-felt thank you to Sabrina in emerg who took special care of Fred and the extra mural nurses, Dr. Bishop, Dr. Lamontagne, and Dr. Dickson for their care.
Fred is survived by his wife Beth (Marney) McBride; son Jeffrey Andrews (Heather) of Dartmouth, NS; daughter Sandra Scott and her husband Andy of Moncton, NB; grandchildren: Carter, Cassidy, Savannah, Alexis, Reuben; sister Terri (Alan) Bolster; brother Neil (Judi) McBride; special nephew Shannon (Shannon) McBride and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Fred was predeceased by his brother Reg McBride.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral home (506-832-5541), 1063 Main Street, Hampton, NB, from where visitation will take place on Monday, February 24, 2025 from 4 to 7pm. Mass of a Christian Burial will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, February 25, 2025 at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, 22 Church Street, Hampton, NB. Interment will take place in the Spring at the St. William’s Cemetery, St. Martins, NB.
