It is with deep sadness and heavy hearts that the family of the late Fred Elford announces his peaceful passing at Carbonear Hospital on December 28, 2024.
Fred leaves behind a lifetime of cherished memories, especially for his devoted wife of 60 years, Sandra; his five children: son Darren (Tish), and daughters Kay (Harold), Shelia (Ken), Tracey (Trevor), and Wendy (Bryan). He will also be lovingly remembered by his 11 grandchildren: Sandra Lee (Conrad), Leah, Megan (Malcolm), Shayla, Brandon (Megan), Matthew (Chelsie), Brittany (Michael), Kayla (Matthew), Amber Lee (Brandon), Taylor, and Tara (Terrence) who were his pride and joy, and his 12 great-grandchildren, who brought a special sparkle to his eyes.
Fred is also survived by his brothers Bob (Verna) and Lawrence (Teresa), sisters Doris and Marie, brothers-in-law: Ted (Marie), Rex, Gordon (Linda), David (Wanda) and Eugene (Diane); sisters-in-law: Louise, Hazel, May (Gar), Susie (Terry) and Olive; nieces, nephews, and a large circle of extended family and dear friends.
Fred was predeceased by his parents, Hubert and Elizabeth Elford; parents-in-law, Walter and Elsie Lundrigan; and several other beloved family members and friends.
A dedicated and hardworking man, Fred held various jobs throughout his life to provide for his family, but his greatest pride was his career as a crane operator, a role he fulfilled for most of his working years. Even in his final days, Fred spoke fondly of those times, sharing memories of the people he worked with and the experiences he treasured.
In his leisure time, especially after retirement, Fred could often be found in his workshop, crafting beautiful woodworking projects. It was his pride and joy, a space he loved to share with anyone who visited. His enthusiasm for his craft and the warmth of his hospitality made everyone feel welcome the moment they entered.
The family extends heartfelt thanks to Major Loveless for the many meaningful visits both at home and in the hospital—your presence was a great comfort. Special thanks are also extended to the staff of Carbonear Hospital, particularly Dr. Howse and the oncology department especially special niece Kelly Brace, as well as Reid’s Circle of Care and his home care workers, Chris Street and Ester Vincent, for their exceptional kindness and care.
The family will be receiving visitors at Warren’s Funeral Home, Dildo, on Wednesday, January 1, 2025, from 2:00 – 4:00 and 7:00 – 9:00 pm.
The funeral service will take place from the Salvation Army TBS Corps, on Thursday, January 2, 2025, at 2:00 pm. Inurnment to follow at the Salvation Army Cemetery, Dildo.
Fred’s life was a testament to hard work, love, and family. He will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who knew him.
