Freda Swerbrick (nee Porter)
January 12, 1933 – March 15, 2025
Freda Swerbrick (nee Porter) passed away peacefully at the age of 92 on March 15, 2025 at Arbour Heights.
Predeceased by her parents Henry James Porter and Nina Fern Porter (nee Shea); her 7 siblings: Arthur “Art”, Henry “Hank”, Kenneth “Ken”, James “Jimmy”, Elaine, Irene, Evelyn “Ev”; and her beloved husband of 71 years, John.
Freda will be greatly missed by her devoted and loving son Doug, her daughter-in-law Jennifer, and her cherished granddaughter Kate.
She will also be remembered by brother-in-law Ed Etmanski, nieces Elaine (Stirling) and Susan (Cam); nephews Ken (Cyndy); Jack (Diane) as well as many great-nieces, great-nephews and extended family.
Freda always spoke fondly of her childhood in Sydenham, her siblings and the many adventures she had growing up. It was also where she met her lifelong partner, best friend and soulmate, John (May 30, 1931 – Sept. 2, 2023). Freda had many friends: from childhood, her LaSalle Park neighborhood, Brown’s Trailer Park on Mazinaw Lake, her church, and the various places that she worked at over the years. Freda was easy to talk to, loved music (especially Elvis), was quick to lend a hand and most of all, loved to laugh.
Freda and John are now re-united, and we are forever grateful for all the time we had with them.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff of Arbour Heights for their exceptional care of, and kindness to, Freda and John over the past several years. Your compassion will always be remembered.
A Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 25, 2025 from 10:00 am to 10:50 am at James Reid Funeral Home 1900 John Counter Blvd., Kingston, followed by a Service of Remembrance for John and Freda in the Chapel at 11:00 am.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer Society (KFL&A) or to St. Andrews By The Lake United Church would be greatly appreciated.
