Obituary of Frank Joseph Schabl
February 11, 1928 to March 3, 2025
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Frank Joseph Schabl on March 3, 2025, at the age of 97. A lifelong resident of Waterloo, Ontario, Frank was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather who will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Frank was the devoted husband of the late Ruth Schabl (2002) and a loving father to Terri Labate (Bruno), Mark Schabl (Samantha), and Carol Luyckfassel (Ken). He was a cherished grandfather to Christopher Labate (Chele), Katie Harris, Jon Schabl (Kelly), Melissa Couch, Becky Couch (Clark), and Alana Rantucci (Mo). His legacy lives on in his twelve great-grandchildren, who brought him so much joy. Frank was predeceased by his parents and siblings.
Frank dedicated 26 years of his life to his craft as an upholsterer at Krug Furniture in Kitchener before beginning a second career as a custodian at Bluevale Collegiate, in Waterloo where he worked for 21 years until his retirement in 1993.
A man who embraced life’s simple pleasures, Frank had a deep love for Oktoberfest especially the parade, the tapping of the keg, and dancing the polka. He was a regular at the Royal Canadian Legion, where he enjoyed good company, friendly games of pool, and a cold beer. Weekends were best spent surrounded by family at “the lot” playing horseshoe, drinking beer and card games, where his competitive spirit always shone through.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Dr. Hertzman, Trang, and the entire team at St. Joseph’s Hospice in London, Ontario, for their kindness and compassionate care.
Cremation has taken place, and a private family service will be held later. In lieu of flowers, condolences for the family and donations in Frank’s memory it would be appreciated to St. Joseph’s Hospice of London, the Breast Cancer Society, or a charity of your choice.
