Frank Raymond Steger
August 12, 1932 – January 21, 2025
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Frank Raymond Steger, beloved husband, educator, and traveler, who passed away peacefully on January 21, 2025, at the age of 92. Born on August 12, 1932, in Kitchener, ON, Frank lived a life full of love, curiosity, and dedication.
Arlene Steger (née Emery), Frank’s loving wife of over 56 years, was by his side when he passed, just as she had been every day since they first met at a dance nearly six decades ago. That first dance set the course for a full and joyful life, one enriched by their shared love of history, travel, and live music. Together, they explored over 25 countries, visiting remarkable places around the world. Their passion for learning and experiencing new things never wavered throughout their marriage. And they never stopped dancing.
Frank graduated second overall from McMaster University with a master’s degree in history, becoming a devoted teacher with the Toronto Catholic District School Board (formerly MSSB), where he inspired countless students throughout his career.
Frank’s collection of model soldiers and historical memorabilia was a true reflection of his passion for history. He meticulously arranged the figures in detailed battle scenes, each one carefully painted and positioned to recreate significant moments from history. His love of history and knowledge was a guiding force in his life, and he instilled these values in those around him.
Frank is survived by his loving wife, Arlene; his sister-in-law, Marilyn Emery; nieces Andrea Bruner, Aimee Bruner (Mishi), and their families; nephews Robert Schmalz (Susan), Michael Schmalz, and niece Debbie Futers (Paul) and their families.
Guests will be received at Holy Cross Catholic Funeral Home, 211 Langstaff Road East, Thornhill, ON (Bayview and Langstaff) on Monday, February 3, 2025, for a visitation from 12:00 pm to 1:15 pm. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated in the Chapel of St. Joseph in the funeral home immediately following the visitation at 1:30 pm. Following the Mass, a private family burial will be held in Holy Cross Catholic Cemetery. A reception will be held at the funeral home from 2:30 pm to 4:00 pm.
Frank’s legacy of kindness, faith, and dedication to others will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation or Make-a-Wish Foundation.
