It is with heavy hearts that the family announces the passing of Elaine Thompson (née Dick) on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in her 92nd year. She passed peacefully at Carpenter Hospice in Burlington with Murray by her side.
Elaine was a devoted wife, dedicated mother and treasured grandmother. She will be missed immensely by her husband Murray; her children: David (Sandy), Stephen, and Fraser (Carmen); her grandchildren: Wade (Lindsay) and Brett (Natalie), and Liam and Ethan.
She was the middle child of Proctor Alexander Dick (d. 1994) and Lena Dorothy McAdam (d. 1985). She was predeceased by her sister Barbara Moir and her brother and sister-in-law David and Delynne Dick – all from Chatham, Ontario.
She will also be missed by her sister-in-law Helen Thompson (London) and her brothers-in-law Jack Thompson (Trenton) and Wally Moir (Chatham) and her many nieces and nephews.
Elaine was born in Chatham on October 19, 1933. She attended McKeough Public School and Chatham Collegiate Institute and then headed off to Ontario Ladies’ College in Whitby (now known as Trafalgar Castle School) and Albert College in Belleville.
Her career aspiration was to be a nurse. She attended the Victoria Hospital School of Nursing in London, Ontario and graduated in 1956. She was a nurse at Victoria Hospital until she became a stay-at-home mom in 1960. A blind date with Murray in 1958 led to their marriage on May 30, 1959. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary in 2024.
The family would like to thank the following for the care she received while living at the condo: the “Hearthstone by the Lake” team of nurses and PSWs, as well as Janette and Gillian; the Halton Health at Home team and the SE Health (St. Elizabeth) nurses. We would also like to acknowledge the kind and considerate care she received in the past week while at Carpenter Hospice.
Visitation will be held from 12:00 – 1:00 p.m. on Monday, February 10, 2025 with funeral service beginning at 1:00 p.m. at Westview Funeral Chapel, 709 Wonderland Road North, London.
