Obituary of Evelyn Winona DeLorey
It is with great sadness that the family of Evelyn Winona (Harnish) DeLorey announces her passing on September 15, 2025, at the age of 66. Born on February 10, 1959, Evelyn was the daughter of the late Albert and Theora (Hart) Harnish.
Evelyn was the beloved wife of 42 years to her devoted husband, Gerald DeLorey. Together they raised three wonderful sons: Edward “Eddie” DeLorey (Amy), Ryan DeLorey (Norah), and Dereck DeLorey (Robyn). She was a proud and loving grandmother to Rachael, Audrina, Boe, and Louka, who were her greatest joy. She will also be dearly missed by her siblings: brothers Neil Harnish (Valerie), Jimmy Harnish (Leslie), and sister Erica Harnish, along with her extended family, friends, and all who were fortunate enough to know her.
Evelyn was known for her kind heart and devotion to family. She found joy in baking, bingo, crafts, and her involvement with the ladies’ guild. She especially cherished time with her grandchildren. Famous for her banana bread, her recipes will live on in the hands of her family.
To know Evelyn was to know laughter and strength. A bubbly and welcoming presence, she was a “neighborhood mom,” a friend to all, and someone who believed no child should ever be left behind. She was tough, resilient, and as her family fondly remembers, “She could make a sailor blush”.
Her family and friends will forever remember Evelyn as the toughest woman they ever met, but also as the most loving. Her legacy will live on in the lives of her children, grandchildren, and all those whose hearts she touched.
A Celebration of Life for Evelyn will take place at J. Albert Walker Funeral Home at 149 Herring Cove Rd, Halifax, NS B3P 1K6 on Saturday, September 20, 2025, from 11 AM to 3 PM.
