Evelyn “Evie” Riepma passed into the arms of her heavenly Father on February 1, 2025. She was born in the Netherlands on June 5, 1927 to the late Floris and Trijntje Aukema. In 1949 she immigrated to Canada and immediately married her fiance, Harry Riepma, to whom she was married for 52 years until his death in 2002. Together they farmed in the Thamesville area, where they raised 6 children She is survived by her children and their spouses, Clare (Judy) Riepma, Teresa Renkema, Alice (Randy) Van Stempvoort, Elizabeth (Ernie) Kramer, Shirley (Kirk) Larsen, and Emily (Eric) Schuurman. She was predeceased by a son-in-law, William Renkema, and a daughter-in-law, Alma Riepma, also by her sister, and 5 brothers. Evie is also survived by 24 grandchildren, 59 great grandchildren, 3 great-great grandchildren, a brother, Cecil Aukema, a sister-in-law, Sjoekje Riepma, and many nieces and nephews.
Evelyn was a supportive farmer’s wife for 45 years. She was a quiet, intelligent, no drama type of woman who dedicated her life to loving her husband, caring for her family, and serving her Lord. She was a very talented seamstress, outfitting her daughters for many years in beautiful clothes. Her steadfastness and hard work created a happy home for her husband and children and good memories for her many grandchildren.
The family wants to express its deep appreciation to Dr. Matsusaki and the staff at St. Andrew’s Residence for the excellent care given to mom.
Donations to the Chatham Christian School may be given in lieu of flowers.
All are welcome to attend a visitation Thursday, February 6, 2025 from 6-8 pm at Grace Christian Reformed Church (255 Tweedsmuir Ave. W.). A funeral service will take place Friday, February 7, 2025 at 12 noon at the church.
