Evelyn Marie Kampen Carrière passed away on February 13, 2025, in Winnipeg, Manitoba. We are inspired, uplifted, and grateful for every moment by her side.
Left to cherish her memory are Evelyn’s daughter Élise Marie Carrière; Ev’s parents Art and Nadine Kampen; brother Alexander Kampen and sister-in-law Ali Kampen; nephews, Huxley and Paxton; brother Keith Kampen and partner Edith Tang; grandmother Vivian Shannon; the extended Kampen and Shannon clans; companion Curtis Aab and family; friends Jim Mark and John and Nancy Dyck and family; and her close circle of dear friends. Evelyn will also be remembered by Élise’s father Jean Paul (JP) Carrière and the Carrière and Allain families. Evelyn was predeceased by her grandfather Donald Shannon and by her Opa Martin and Oma Helene Kampen.
Born on September 30, 1989, Evelyn grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba and attended the German-English bilingual school programs in the River East School Division. She later attended Trinity Western University and CMU, where she gained her Bachelor of Arts.
Athletics were an integral part of Evelyn’s life. She trained in gymnastics, soccer, and especially volleyball, which she pursued with passion up to the professional level in Germany and Denmark, capturing coveted championships and awards along the way. After Evelyn retired from professional volleyball, she fell in love with beach volleyball and cross-fit training, gaining credentials as a certified ACE personal trainer with nutritional accreditation. Her recent goal was to offer fitness and dietary counselling for cancer patients but time was not on her side.
Evelyn’s love of athletics led her to a career as campus well-being coordinator at Red River College Polytechnic as well as numerous coaching roles. Highly regarded in her workplace and loved as an athlete, coach, trainer, and mentor, she took her roles to heart, striving to have a positive impact. As such an accomplished athlete and coach, Evelyn became the inaugural inductee into the Trail of Honour at CMU in recognition of her drive and unbreakable spirit.
Above all else, Evelyn adored her beloved daughter Élise, born August 3, 2022. Élise was a true miracle to Evelyn, filling her days with laughter and the greatest love she had ever experienced. Their mother-daughter relationship brought great joy to both their lives. They shared many laughs as well as countless adventures in their short but meaningful time together. Evelyn poured boundless energy and love into raising her little girl. To Élise, Evelyn was her awesome and beautiful Mommy – warm-hearted, energetic, and loving. Evelyn’s final weeks were spent on art projects to ensure Élise would have memories of her mother for life. To family, Evelyn or “Evie” was a cherished, funny, talented, insightful, determined, positive, kind, and wonderful human being.
Evelyn loved time with family, from canoe trips and lakeside holidays to playing board games with her siblings and parents and violin with her grandparents. Ev adored animals, including her best buddy and walking pal, Luke, her Basenji. She also loved opportunities to travel, cherishing especially her time in Europe and a few short but special trips with dear friends this past year. What a fine journey this amazing woman took us on with her. We have all learned from her, adored her, laughed and cried with her, and now celebrate her life and join together as Élise’s extended village. We are saying farewell, but Evelyn’s memory and generous spirit remain with us. We will aim to hold on to the breath and light of her compassion and energy.
Thank you, Evelyn, for your endless gifts to us. We love you with all our hearts.
