Evelyn passed on April 13, peacefully, comfortably, and in the company of her family.
From a humble start, her talents led her to a storied career as an opera singer, beginning in her teenage years and continuing into the 1960’s. Having won various competitions early on, and eventually a scholarship to the Juilliard School, in New York, she became a star of personal appearances with various opera companies, radio (particularly) and (then-fledgling) TV. She moved on from that career to become a business partner with Walter, her husband for over 50 years, in an entrepreneurial small business (Walter Reiter Limited, a real estate paraprofessional business), that they built to success. She worked at that into her 70’s and, following Walter’s death in 2008, lived independently into her 100th year.
Evelyn leaves memories with her children Barry Reiter (Karen) and Lauren Cameron (Keith), and with grandchildren Ian Cameron (Mira), Paul Cameron (Krista), Liam Cameron (Kate), Evan Reiter (Ally) and Elise Reiter, and great-grandchildren Maya, Eloise, Logan, Lena and Reuben.
She and the family are most grateful for the friendship and many kindnesses of close friend Mary Viera. Thanks to the caregivers and facilities that assisted Evelyn as her needs evolved. And special thanks to Karen, whose friendship and support touched Evelyn and allowed her to live life as fully as possible to the very end.
In keeping with Evelyn’s wishes, there are to be no memorial events. If you wish to do something to honour Evelyn, please consider supporting the musical arts by attendance or donation. Music was the muse of her life.
