EVELYN DOREEN DALTON
In loving memory of Evelyn Doreen Dalton of Extendicare, Oshawa, who has gone home to rest on January 5, 2025, at the age of 96.
Evelyn was born July 6, 1928 to Eleanor Violet (Harris) and Charles William Dalton and was the fifth of ten children. (Mildred, Hazeldean, Muriel, Marion, Evelyn, Donovan, Ruth, Ruby, Elladean & Gayle) Evelyn was born in Dogs Nest, ON (just east of Port Dover) and until 1945 also lived in BC and Briarlea, SK. In 1945 the family moved back to a farm near Seagrave ON and Evelyn went to work in Toronto.
In 1948 the Workers (Annie Anderson & Doris Lane) came to the family farm and stayed with them. During this time her mom had told these Workers about Evelyn in Toronto and they contacted Workers Freddie Bryanton and Hubert McCauley who in turn had some young friends (Dorothy Webster and some Richard girls) contact Evelyn as well. These girls brought Evelyn to Gospel Meetings and then she moved in with them. Evelyn often went home on weekends and her and her mom often talked late into the night about this ‘way of life’! It was a struggle for her to give up dancing and make- up , but the call to her heart empowered her to leave that all behind. Evelyns mom professed that winter and Evelyn did a wee bit later-she was 20 years old. In her early twenties, she offered her life to be used in the ministry. Even before the gospel came, she had often thought that she would like to be a missionary to Asia, particularly China!
At the age of 25, in January of 1954, Evelyn left all behind to join her first companion, Lizzie White, in the Kincardine area of Ontario. Some time later a call came for Workers to go to Korea, and Evelyn was ready to go! She laboured there for 50 years and had a couple tours for conventions that took her to the Philippines/New Zealand route in 1991 and another time to Great Britian. Evelyn came back home to Ontario in 2011 at the age of 83 and helped out in the ministry that she gave her life to until 2013 when she entered assisted living for a couple of years, then Extendicare in Oshawa until her passing.
Evelyn is survived by her sisters Ruth Forester and sister Ruby Wagg (& Lloyd) as well as many nieces and nephews, also great and great great nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her father Charles in 1960, mother Eleanor in 1991, sisters Mildred in 1932, Hazeldean Weese 2006 (Gordon 1994), Muriel Farrow in 1990 (BIll 1975), Marion Hartin in 2016 (Max 2003), Elladean Bayard in 2008 (Klaus 2015), Gayle Watson in 2021 (Murray 2005), brother Donovan 1994 (Patricia 1985), bro in law John Forester 2022, nephews Lloyd Hartin 1991, Ray Wagg 2016, Christopher Bayard 2013, Brian Dalton 2021, Charles Hartin 2023, great niece Caitlin Jelley 2009, nephew in law Don Bell 2017, and niece in law Laurel Wagg 2022.
