In Loving Memory of Evelyn Beryl Morrison (nee Pearce)
Passed away Sunday, February 23, 2025 at Lakeridge Health Oshawa at the age of 93 with her children by her side.
She is predeceased by her husband,Grant Morrison and survived by sister Lois and brothers Doug and Gerald. She leaves her daughter; Roxanne and husband Earl; her son Robert and wife Mary Jo; her daughter Shelley and husband Al. Lovingly remembered by her 7 grandchildren Marielle (Rob), Karen (Chris); Claire (Andrew), Caitlin (Richard), Cole (Stephanie); Janelle (Joe), Brianne (Erol). GG will be missed by her 11 great grandchildren: Grant, Trent, Andrew, Gavin, Nolan, Alec, Cian, Kensey, Addison, Leo and Sophie.
Born in Coboconk July 2, 1931, mom moved to Oshawa to live with her aunt and uncle at age 15. At 19 she was working as a switch board operator at Bell. As were the times, a group of young men awaited their young ladies at the steps of the office at end of the day. Perhaps to take them to dinner, a dance, or a movie. Even though she was to meet her own gentleman, it was on the steps of the office that a different, dashing young man caught her eye and she and Grant were married in 1950.
Mom loved to travel. In fact, as her grandchildren grew and travelled themselves, it was unusual for them to go somewhere Gran had not already visited. In fact, Gran was always on the go. Golfing, bowling, dancing, movie group, walking group, etc. Typical phone call: “Hi Gran, what are you doing today?” “Oh, how lovely to hear from you, but I’m just on my way out”. And Gran was an adventurer. She was game for anything and accepted all invitations, regardless of how outrageous.
Every summer you would find mom walking Deep Bay Road in Moore Falls. She was known by many who drove by. “I saw your mom out walking this morning” was the usual opener to a conversation with a neighbour. She won her age category many times when competing in the Minden Highland Yard. Her commitment to physical well-being was modelled for her family. They had to be active just to keep up with Gran!
She was a special, special person. She was diagnosed with cancer in 2017. Through all her medical tribulations, she maintained a grace and dignity. And a surprisingly irreverent sense of humour. And Gran pushed back. Hard. She repeatedly defied the odds. She was a tenacious woman. A pragmatic woman. A kind, gentle woman; yet would accept no excuses for giving less than your all.
It’s very sad and hard imagining a world where she’s not there. We are diminished by her loss.
A Private Family Celebration will be held at a later date.
