Eva will be loved and remembered by many, especially her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and family. David (Leslie) St. Albert, AB and son, Daniel (Jacqueline Behles) Houston, Texas: Darlene Jerry Chris Sister Anne (Bob) Morrison, San Diego, California; brother Walter Deneiko, Calgary, AB; brother-in-law Fred Wittig, New Westminster, BC; sister-in-law Shirley Deneiko, Young, SK, sister-in-law Nan Michnik, Edam, SK, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
Eva was predeceased by husband Nick (2021); her parents, Martha (1943) and Mykyta (1971) Deneiko; brothers Dan (2012), Russel (2014); sister Ollie Wittig (2023), brother-in-law and sister-in-law.
Eva was the eldest daughter, born March 22, 1930 in the village of Kusteche near Brest, Poland, to Martha (nee Lewchuk) and Mykyta Deneiko. Afraid would not survive, baptized same day and as mom has said, with the Lord’s help, she survived more than 94 years.
On June 14, 1930, at three months of age, Eva set sail with nine members of her family, aboard the ASCANIA. A rough two week voyage, plagued with seasickness, icebergs and fear of the unknown, brought them to Canada and eventually the Green Park District south west of Glaslyn, Saskatchewan. Her parents worked hard to build a home, farm and livelihood for their growing family. She attended the rural, one room Green Park school, creating many fond memories with lifelong friends.
Disaster struck her family in 1943 when their mother passed away. With the help and patience of her father, and younger siblings, Eva learnt as a young teen how to help raise a family with love and hard work.
On October 21, 1948, Eva married Nick Dmytryshyn of the Marlin district. Glaslyn would become their home, where they would raise their four children, teach us family values and the importance of extended family gatherings and connections. Mom’s table always had room for another guest and no one ever left hungry.
During their 60 years in Glaslyn, Eva was active with various community volunteer organizations. She became a life member of the Glaslyn Royal Purple, accepting the positions of Honoured Royal Lady, and District Deputy. School board trustee for 12 years, most of them as secretary, and she helped to facilitate and support the early stages of local recreation boards, and figure skating associations.
Together with other families who had immigrated from ‘the old country’, they dedicated themselves to preserving Ukrainian traditions and their Orthodox faith within the community of Sts. Peter and Paul Ukrainian Orthodox Church. Eva was always an active member and at times President of the church Ladies Aide, organizing fundraisers, catering weddings and numerous church events.
Over the years Eva found time to work at , Macleod’s Store and eventually the Glaslyn Co-op, retiring in 1992 after 18 years.
In 2002, Eva again volunteered to be on a committee that would undertake the 2 ½ year project of writing the Glaslyn and RM of Parkdale History Book, Northern Reflections. She loved hearing the stories that brought her community together.
In 1960 Eva and Nick built a family cottage at Turtle Lake and that led to over 50 years of hosting reunions, anniversaries, family vacations and just summer days at the lake.
A decision to spend the 2013/14 winter in Saskatoon led to the purchase of a condo at Chalet Gardens and a permanent move from Glaslyn. Another move in 2017 got them settled into Ilarion Residence where they again made friends and it was home for mom for 6 years.
Following a brief hospitalization in 2023, it was determined mom would have a better recovery with the assistance of a nursing home. She was fortunate to live at St. Ann’s Home in Saskatoon until her passing on January 3rd. She enjoyed the fellowship of new friends, faith and how she could welcome her family into their home.
Eva’s family would like to thank Michelle, Edgar all of the staff at St. Ann’s Home for the compassionate care that was shown to our mom in the management of her comfort.

Prayer Services will be held on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at 7:00 pm and the Funeral Service will be held on Friday, January 10, 2025 at 10:00 am. Both services will be at All Saints Ukrainian Orthodox Church, 2616 Louise St. in Saskatoon SK presided by The Very Reverend Archpriest Peter Wasylenko. Interment will be at Woodlawn Cemetery in North Battleford, SK.
