Eugene L. “Gene” Kenny
1933-2025
It is with great sadness that we announce that
Eugene “Gene” Kenny passed away peacefully, surrounded by
his family, on Saturday, Feb 1, 2025 at the age of 91. Gene was born
on a farm in Morell, Prince Edward Island, the youngest of four
children to the late Lemuel and Catherine Kenny
(Landrigan).
Gene
graduated from St. Dunstan’s University, Class of 1954, and
this past summer, attended his 70th class reunion. He met the love of
his life, Anne Campbell, of Charlottetown. They married in 1959 and
moved to Halifax, Nova Scotia, where Gene worked as a District Retail
sales manager for the Canadian Petrofina. In 1969, Gene moved with
Anne and their four young daughters to Framingham,
Massachusetts.
Gene
worked for 24 years at Exxon Corporation and was the New England
Senior Real Estate Marketing Manager before retiring in 1993. During
that time, Gene served a term as president of the New England Chapter
of National Association of Corporate Real Estate
Executives.
Gene and
Anne created a wonderful life raising their four daughters,
travelling, playing tennis, golf and bridge and spending time with
their “Club Ballou” friends.
In their retirement, Gene and Anne split their time
between their residence at Southgate in Shrewsbury and their summer
cottage in Tea Hill, PEI. Family was extremely important to Gene. He
loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, getting
together to watch football, and playing 45’s and cribbage
with his family.
He
had great devotion to his Catholic faith. He was an active member of
St. Bridget’s Parish, Framingham and the chapel at
Southgate, serving as Eucharistic Minister and
lector.
Gene is
survived by his wife Anne of 66 years, and will be greatly missed by
his daughters, Pamela (Brian) Connolly, Sharon (Kevin) Pierce, Ellen
(Daniel) Castillo, and Leanne (Eric) Imparato. Beloved
“Papa” to Garrett, Brannon, Allia, Colin (Molly), Mackenzie,
Colby, Campbell, Madison, Austin, Carter, Mia, Noah, and Ella, and his
first great-grandchild, Maeve; and special niece, Kenna (Joseph)
Sullivan.
Gene is
predeceased by his siblings, Reginald Kenny (Charlottetown), Cecilia
McAree (Brighton, MA), and Sr. Helena Kenny, CSJ
(Toronto).
A special
thank you to Dr. Zahra Sheikh and the JHC Hospice for their support
and compassionate care of our Dad.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, February 11, 2025
from 9:30 AM to 11 AM at the Britton-Shrewsbury Funeral Home, 648 Main
Street, Shrewsbury, MA, followed by a funeral Mass at St.
Mary’s Parish, Shrewsbury, which will be celebrated at 11:30
AM. Interment will be at the Roman Catholic Cemetery, Charlottetown,
PEI in the Summer 2025.
