Ernesto Burga passed away on February 24, 2025. Ernesto was born in Lima, Peru. He studied engineering in the prestigious Universidad Nacional de Ingenieria. His engineering work started in the Cristal brewery in the jungles of Peru but his drive and ambition would take him beyond Barrios Altos. With his beloved wife, Andrea and two small children he embarked on his journey to Canada. He moved to Timmins, Ontario in 1975 with his family and added 2 more beautiful babies on the way. He began a long and distinguished career in mining. His work and expertise took him around the globe to 15 countries such as Mexico, Chile, Argentina, Australia, China and Bulgaria, to name a few. He embraced his new home learning to skate (kind of) watching Hockey Night in Canada and becoming a long suffering Maple Leafs fan. He always cherished his Peruvian roots – sharing his love of soccer and his formidable skills and tricks with all his kids and grandchildren. He was an unofficial Peruvian ambassador sharing his love of his homeland, Peruvian traditions, Peruvian music and most importantly the amazing Peruvian food!
He was a loving, dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, colleague and friend with a passion for life and giving the world to everyone around him. He was a lifelong dreamer, eternal optimist, and an inspiration to his family. He was always ready to impart his quiet wisdom, share his knowledge, and passion for his work. He was brilliant and so loved.
Ernesto is survived by his eternal dance partner and wife, Andrea, and their four children, Andrea (Billy Fowler), David (Lisa Burga), Jennifer (Mike Hillcoat) and Veronica (Carlo Sarracini) and his four grandchildren, Ava, Alexander, Elias and Jackson.
We would like to thank the compassionate care received by the great workers at the Mississauga Hospital. A Celebration of Life event will be held on Sunday May 18th between 5 – 8 p.m. at C Banquets, 300 City Centre Drive, 12th Floor.
