On the first day of spring, Erin Elizabeth Tompkins was reborn into a state of continual and joyous love such as she shared with the world over her 31 years with us. Although Erin’s life was filled with medical appointments and therapies to help her live her best life, she was always quick with a smile, fierce hug, or genuine compliment. She took great pride in playing an active part in her international Joubert Syndrome family, especially when it came time to hold a new baby! She was an inspiration to many families coming to terms with a new diagnosis of JS.
Her parents, Karen (Nagy) and Kevin Tompkins as well as her siblings Heather Tompkins and Sarah (Martin) Malenfant were tireless advocates to help Erin live a full life as independently as possible. She has left a legacy of love and hope to many, including her grandparents Charles and Coby Tompkins, many aunts and uncles, dozens of cousins and her chosen family at Karis Dougall 7 Group Home. We have not lost Erin; rather, we have lost the opportunity to create new memories with her. Erin is in every baby’s giggle, every rainbow, and every exuberant hug. Erin lives on in every life she touched and inspired. The wave was just a way for the water to be for a while.
