It is with great sadness and hurting hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved Elizabeth Margaret Beange (nee Slomke). On Monday Mar 3, 2025, we said goodbye to “Betty” who was greeted by her dearest Clifford Beange; predeceased. “Chief” patiently waited for 25 years to welcome her with open arms and be together once again.
Betty will be missed by her loving family: Children Greg and Mike (spouse Dawn), sister Shirley Weese of Sault St Marie, brother Wayne Slomke (MaryLou) of Thunder Bay, Watson Slomke; predeceased. Grandchildren: Matt (Elina), Grace Elizabeth, Alisa (Tyler), Hughy. Great grandchildren: Richard, Diana, Margot, and Nora. Her best friend and partner Steve Kovacs who is broken-hearted by the loss of Betty. Even the family pets were adored by Betty.
Betty was cherished deeply by many in her life. Raised on Manitoulin Island in Gordon township she then left home to pursue a Nursing degree. She retired after 40 years as an accomplished nurse caring for others, delivering babies, and even working the iron lung machine. Betty was very spiritual, praying every day for those in need or those who may have been struggling. She always advocated for showing kindness and positivity to all those she crossed paths with.
Betty’s positivity was contagious, she bonded with many, especially as she followed her much-loved Blue Jays and Maple Leafs; rarely missing a game. She often went camping and fishing even into her late 80’s. She was the keeper of the infamous Christmas pudding recipe, making it every year for her family. She appreciated music, going dancing weekly with her partner Steve (and dance they did!) and playing her piano beautifully every day.
Betty was surrounded by her intimate family, with peaceful music as she left this life to embark on her next great adventure. Goodbye Betty and thank you for the love and memories.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
