Obituary of Elizabeth (Beth) Joan Rintoul
(b. 30 October 1953, Moose Jaw, SK) passed away at home in her own bed on 27 January 2025, resting comfortably with round the clock TLC from very close friend Brian Roue, and “sister-in-law” Diana Roue. It was the end of a long battle with cancer that originated in her colon. Daughter of Jean Isobel Rintoul (nee Stewart), and Lloyd Alexander Rintoul, of Moose Jaw, Sask. Survived by brothers Robert John (Bob) Rintoul, (b. Moose Jaw), and Brian Lloyd Rintoul (b. Montreal). Began school in Montreal, graduated in Ottawa, attended post secondary in Ottawa, Kemptville (Food and Fashion), and the Washington, DC area. Beth was employed by the Australian Embassy from the late 1970s until the end of 1999, where duties included purchase of spares for RAAF F-18s. On Valentines Day 2000 she began work in Hull for DND as their only “International Traffic in Arms Regulations” expert, and soon purchased a home for herself and her feline “uncles” Black Jack (father’s oldest brother) and Ernie (mother’s brother killed in Normandy, 1944). For a period during her time in DND, French language training received her full attention. Beth was a mezzo in various choirs, including the Girls Choir at Woodroffe United Church; at Fourth Presbyterian Church, Bethesda, Maryland, (where she also made many friends in their “Ambassadors” singles group), and for a time at the Met Church in Ottawa. Other activities included being an active book club member, crafter, sewer, etc., and P.O.A. for our parents following their Friday 13/01/2006 Alzheimer diagnoses. On retirement, she had a brief encounter with the phoenix pay system. Among other things she added being an avid quilter. Beth was a member of Canadian Hemochromatosis Society.
A Memorial Service will take place at Pinecrest Remembrance Services, 2500 Baseline Road on Tuesday, February 11, 2025 at 1pm. Reception to follow. Donations to The Canadian Cancer Society would be appreciated.
