It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Eileen, a beloved mother, wife, sister, and grandmother, who passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 14, 2025 at Juravinski Hospital surrounded by family after a brief battle with cancer. Survived by her husband, Larry of 56 years; sister, Clare (Dick); children, Andrew (Amy), Erin (Troy); and grandchildren, Matthew, Andrew, Meghan and Lindsay who were the joys of her life.
As a devoted mother, she poured love and care into her children, always putting their needs first. As a loving wife, she shared an unbreakable bond with her partner, built on mutual respect, trust, and unwavering affection. As a sister, she was a steadfast confidante and best friend, and as a grandmother, she provided warmth, wisdom, and endless joy to her cherished grandchildren.
She was a woman whose energy and spirit lit up every room she entered, and whose infectious smile and boisterous laugh will forever echo in our memories. There was never a worry of her getting lost in a crowd. She had a knack of knowing her audience, yet they were always fearful of what she might say.
Her love for life and her ability to bring people together made her unforgettable. Her presence was larger than life, and her kindness knew no bounds. She had a remarkable ability to make everyone feel welcome, valued, and beloved. Eileen was notorious for going out for one hour walks, meeting a dozen people and all the dogs in the neighborhood then returning 3 hours later.
She was a special ed and primary school teacher, an avid reader of 3 to 4 books per week, always looked forward to filling her calendar with Bridge, Euchre, Probus, Book Clubs and Groups, along with lunches with countless friends. As a family we spent 29 years relaxing at the cottage on Brewster Lake. Golf in retirement seemed to be more for the social aspect for Eileen. Over the years she loved her mini-cations to Niagara, taking in shows, the casino and enjoying the Falls. After retirement Larry and Eileen went on numerous European trips with close friends holding a special fondness of taking river cruises.
Eileen leaves behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unforgettable moments that will continue to inspire all who knew her. Though her physical presence will be missed, her spirit will live on in the hearts of her family, friends, and all whose lives she touched.
A special heartfelt thank you to Dr McPhaden (OTMH) and Dr Foley (Juravinski), all the nurses and support staff at both hospitals for your unwavering dedication, compassion, and expertise in making Eileen as comfortable as possible over the past seven months.
As per her wishes there will be no visitation nor funeral service and cremation has taken place; however, a celebration of Eileen’s life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to The Cancer Society or a charity of your choice.
Rest in peace, Eileen / Mum. You will forever be loved and missed but never forgotten.
“Love you forever,
Like you for always,
As long as we’re living
My Mommy you’ll be”
