MEYER, Elfriede Sophie Margarete (Horstmann)
July 17th, 1934 – March 25th, 2025
Passed away peacefully with her loving family by her side on March 25, 2025, at St. Mary’s General Hospital, Kitchener. Elfriede was born 90 years ago, in Estorf, Germany. Elfriede immigrated with her husband to Kitchener in 1957. She was predeceased by her loving husband Heinrich Meyer on August 4th, 1994. A daughter of the late Heinrich and Sophie (Stolle) Horstmann.
Mom will be missed but not forgotten by her children Harvey Meyer of Cambridge, her daughter Iris (Meyer) Pierson of Baden and her son-in-law Doug Pierson. Elfriede was a wonderful Oma who adored her three grandchildren and their spouses. Kayleigh (Pierson) Schultz and Nick Schultz, Ryan and Vanessa (Curry) Pierson and Emily Pierson. Elfriede will be missed by her sisters-in-law Erika and Roswihta Horstmann. Predeceased by her beloved brothers Manfred and Egon Horstmann, sister Edith, brother and sister in-law John and Margret Meyer.
Elfriede loved her family very much, she was a brave, caring and compassionate person. She worked very hard her whole life. When she came to Canada she started working in a factory, and took in boarders to make ends meet. Later on she and her husband opened up W. Watchcraft Jewellers, where they were in business for may years until his passing. Mom loved travelling, reading, going for walks, doing puzzles, art and watching Andre Rieu concerts. She also loved hosting afternoon Sunday coffee and cake for her family and friends. We admire and love our mother and Oma very much and are very grateful to have been blessed to have her as a part of our lives. We are at peace to know she has gone to be with The Lord.
The family would like to acknowledge and thank Clair Hills Retirement Home and all their dedicated staff for these past few months as they became her family too. The family would also like to thank her family physician for the great care that was provided over the past few years and the St. Mary’s General Hospital palliative team in her final days whose comfort and care were greatly appreciated.
In keeping with her wishes, cremation has taken place. A private burial service will take place in the future. Elfriede will be laid to rest with her beloved husband Heinrich in Parklawn Cemetery, Cambridge.
As expressions of sympathy, and in lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to St. Mary’s General Hospital or Community Care Concepts and can be made through the funeral home.
