Obituary of Elaine Turner
It is with great sadness that the family of Elaine Catherine Turner, 86, of Hampton, New Brunswick, announce her passing which occurred peacefully in her home on January 24, 2025, surrounded by her family. Born in Moncton, NB on February 15, 1938, she was the daughter of the late Harold James and Catherine Florence (Jones) Hicks.
Mom was a graduate of Moncton High School, and while living at home and helping care for her many siblings, she also worked fulltime at Evangeline Beverages until she got married on August 15, 1958, to William Lee Turner (Dad). Mom and Dad went on to have three children, Bonnie Lee Turner (Hampton), Scott William Turner (Hampton), and me, Tammy Lynn Turner (Apohaqui).
After retirement, and for over 25 years following, Mom and Dad spent their winters in Florida, where they enjoyed spending time with friends and having many small adventures. Mom had a child-like spirit and would want to join in for all the fun activities. From riding roller coasters and water-rides at Epcot, Bush Gardens, Disney, and Canada’s Wonderland, to going for a ride on four wheelers and motorcycles, to ice skating, tobogganing, and bike riding. Mom loved to do crafts. She worked with all kinds of mediums; honing all kinds of skills. From crocheting Afghans, making blankets and table runners with Swedish weaving, ceramics, macrame, sewing, rug-hooking, embroidery, cross-stitching, plastic canvas, and the list goes on. Over the years she created a great number of beautiful items that we will cherish forever.
Mom, like her mother, Catherine, before her, enjoyed watching the Blue Jays. She also enjoyed watching hockey whenever Team Canada was playing. Mom had a love to feed and care for her family, so she was always cooking or baking something yummy. One of her favorite things was strawberry shortcake made with strawberries she picked, and the fluffiest biscuits you’d ever tasted, and topped with real whipped cream. When strawberry shortcake was served in our home, it WAS the meal. Mom also enjoyed, in true Maritimes style, all kinds of seafood, in particular, lobster rolls and scallops. Mom was the first person to influence us with the popular music of the 50s, 60s, 70s, and 80s. The radio was always on the most popular pop station (when Dad wasn’t home). Her favorite artists were Elvis, Tom Jones, and the Beatles. Her favorite song of all time was Sleepwalk, by Johnny & Santo. Mom also enjoyed BINGO.
Mom was predeceased by her parents, Harold & Cathy, as well as her brother, Robert (Bob) Hicks of Kamloops, B.C. She is survived by her husband of 66 years, William, her children, Bonnie, Scott, & Tammy; her grandchildren, Christoper Stevens and his son’s Jackson & Ryder, Ben (Danielle) Stevens and their children Cohan, Landon, Carson, and Khloe, and Leighann (Adam) Stevens and their children Brentley & Valerie, and Carter Patterson and his daughter, Halo. Elaine is also survived by her siblings, James (Sandra) Hicks, Karl (Beverly) Hicks, Glenn (Karen) Hicks, Carol Ann Hicks, Gary (Cynthia) Hicks, Dennis (Lydia) Hicks, Brian (Kim) Hicks, and Mark (Kim) Hicks, as well as sister & brother-in-law, Helen & Hollis Boyd, and many nieces and nephews.
Arrangements have been entrusted to Reid’s Funeral Home (506-832-5541) 1063 Main Street Hampton, NB and will be held privately. Interment will take place in the spring at Hampton Rural Cemetery, Hampton, NB.
Elaine was a huge animal lover and over the years her family had several dogs, a couple cats, a rat, mice, rabbits, and even homing pigeons. For that reason, donations in memory of Elaine may be made to the charity of the donor’s choice. Personal condolences to the family and charitable donations may be made through: ReidsFH.com
