Elaine Northrup Obituary
It is with profound sadness that we announce the unexpected passing of our beautiful sister, mother and grandmother, Elaine Wendy “Marty” (Martin) Northrup, at her home on January 16, 2025. She was born in Saint John on May 14, 1955, to the late Edgar and June (Melvin) Martin.
Marty was one of the most giving and selfless people that you would ever meet. She started her career out as a banker but left that after a number of years to devote herself to working in the non-profit sector as the Executive Director for 32 years at Hestia House, helping people start over and have a fresh new lease on life. She always put others before herself. Marty was also a lot of fun. She loved to party and loved to dance, she was a fun loving person who everyone always had a good time with. She had a great sense of humor and you never knew what was going to come out of her mouth next. Starting from a young age until the very end, St. Martins was her happy place. She had a trailer there and loved the feel of the wind off the water and the smell of the waves and sand. Marty was the kind of person that you didn’t know you needed in your life until you met her and then you never wanted to let her go. She will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her loving children, Kris (Tara) and Lacey; her 5 adored grandchildren, Dustin, Nathan, Corinne, Mya and Ethan; her brother, Larry Martin; her sisters, Kathy (Michael) and Karen (Bruce); as well as several nieces and nephews, cousins and so many friends. Along with her parents, she was predeceased by her aunt and uncle, Audrey and Don Taylor, and her special friend Audrey Flynn.
Arrangements are entrusted to Fundy Funeral Home, 230 Westmorland Road (506-646-2424) where visitation will be held on Tuesday from 12-8pm. A funeral service will take place on Wednesday, January 22 at 10am from the Fundy Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will take place in the Spring. For those who wish, memorial donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation or to the charity of the donors choice would be appreciated by her family.
