Elaine Whitton, age 95, passed away on February 28, 2025 in Ottawa, Canada. Born in Leigh-on-Sea, England, Elaine lived a remarkable life marked by resilience, dedication, and love.
Elaine was predeceased by her beloved spouse, Howard Whitton, and their son, David. She is survived by her devoted sons, Mark and Alan, their spouses Lorraine and Susan, her cherished grandchildren, Owen, Rhianna, Katherine, Emily, and Rhys, and three great grandchildren.
Elaine’s early years were shaped by the experience of living through World War II. Despite the post-war challenges, she determinedly pursued her education, earning a degree in Statistics at University College of London. Her academic achievements underlaid a long and meaningful career as a math teacher in Montreal, where she inspired countless students with her passion for learning and unwavering commitment.
In 1959, Elaine, Howard and the family immigrated to Canada and built a new life. Elaine had a deep love for gardening, a passion she shared with her late husband, Howard. Their garden was a reflection of their devotion to nurturing life and beauty, and it brought joy to them and the family.
Elaine will be remembered for her warmth, intelligence, and the profound impact she had on everyone she met. Her unconditional caregiving, love, and support were the cornerstones of her family’s strength, and she made countless sacrifices to ensure their happiness and well-being.
A celebration of life will be held to honour Elaine’s life on March 15th at 11:00am, at Christ Church Bells Corners, 3861 Old Richmond Rd, Nepean, followed by a reception.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to a charity of your choice in Elaine’s memory.
