Elaine “Melba” Marlene Fry Obituary
Elaine Marlene Fry “Melba”
April 13, 1962 – May 15, 2025
It is with broken hearts that we announce the sudden passing of Elaine Marlene Fry—known to almost everyone who loved her simply as Melba—on Thursday, May 15, 2025, at her home in Georgetown.
Elaine was the beloved wife and partner of Mike, and a fiercely devoted mother to Trevor and Kara. She was the cherished daughter of Marlene Tost and sister to Diane (Claude), with whom she shared a lifetime of memories. Elaine was also a proud and loving aunt to Mitchell (Meghan), Luke, Rachel (Floyd) Jaycie, Carson, Payton, Brett and great aunt to Declan.
She will be deeply missed by Mike’s family—Chris (Shelley), Randy, sister-in-law and friend Pam. Her lifelong friendship with her best friend forever, Tish, was a rare and beautiful bond that brought joy and strength to them both. Elaine is preceded in death by her father Robert and brother Glen.
Melba had an extraordinary heart and an even more extraordinary sense of humour. She was born to craft—every stitch, bead, and brushstroke a labour of love. Annually, she made 43 Christmas ornaments…. for just one person! Her creativity knew no limits, and her handmade treasures filled homes and hearts alike.
For over 20 years, Elaine worked at Walmart, where she was a familiar, friendly face to all. She was known and loved by coworkers and customers alike—and incredibly, never missed a single day of work. Her dedication was only matched by the joy she found in the simple things: spirited debates with Mike in the garden, long chats on the patio during beautiful evenings, and the laughter that echoed through all of it. Elaine truly was a walking miracle. Thru multiple heart surgeries, as well as a cancer survivor, she was the epitome of the word Fighter.
Elaine also dedicated many years to coaching with the Georgetown Soccer League, where she encouraged young players with warmth, humour, and an endless supply of support.
Melba’s beloved cat, Amelia, was always by her side. Her laugh was infectious, her kindness unwavering, and her ability to make people feel seen and loved was one of her greatest gifts.
Elaine’s absence leaves an immeasurable void in the lives of those who knew her. Though we are heartbroken, we are forever grateful for the time we had with her and the love she gave so freely.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to the Heart & Stroke Foundation in honour of Elaine’s generous spirit and love for all living things.
Forever Melba. Forever in our hearts.
A Celebration of Life will be scheduled for a date in the near future
