With heavy hearts, the family of Eilene Bilcowski announces her peaceful passing at Bethammi Nursing Home on January 25, 2025, with loved ones by her side.
A lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, Eilene was born June 5, 1942, to Harriet and Arthur Frank Duhamel. She began her career as a Registered Nursing Assistant where on the first day of work she met her lifelong best friend Nikki. In 1969, she married the love of her life, Albert Bilcowski and together they had two sons, Jason and Shawn. After Dad’s passing in 1985, Mom’s strength and resilience led her back to school, where she became a Registered Practical Nurse. However, it was as a Student Support Person at St. Bernard’s School that she found her true passion, touching the lives of many students who affectionately knew her as “Mrs. B.”
In retirement, Eilene enjoyed gardening, casino outings, and collecting cherished knick-knacks. Above all, she adored her beloved dogs, Lucky and Squirt, who were always by her side.
Eilene is survived by her brother Arthur Duhamel (son Nelson & daughter Charlotte), sons Jason & Shawn (Beckie & Ella) and many dear family and friends. She was predeceased by her husband, Albert, mother Harriet, mother-in-law Helen Bilcowski, sister-in-law Emma (Arthur), and numerous other loved ones.
With heartfelt thanks to the staff at Bethammi Nursing Home (special thanks to Floor 2), we are deeply grateful for the incredible care and compassion you have shown Mom. You may never know how truly appreciated you are or the stress you ease for families like ours. To all families, please be kind, we’re all human.
A funeral service for Eilene will be held on Thursday, February 6, 2025 at the Sargent and Son Funeral Chapel (21 Court Street North) celebrated by Suzanne Quirion at 11:00 am. Burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay District Humane Society would be appreciated.
Eilene’s kindness, strength, and unwavering love will be deeply missed.
