Eileen McGowan died peacefully on Tuesday March 25, 2025 at Georgian Manor Long Term Care, Penetanguishene at the age of 80. Eileen of Wasaga Beach, formerly of Powassan is predeceased by her husband George McGowan (2016). Loving mother of Rhonda (Myles Bradford), and Foster McGowan (Carolyn) and adored Grandmother of Hudson and Kian Bradford, Matthew and Andrew Soti and Connor and Stephanie McGowan. Eileen was the middle child of a family of eight born to George and Lucille Chew. She is survived by siblings Colleen (Peter Fryzuk), Beverley (the late Conn Jarrett), Betty (the late Norman Stock), David and Peter and predeceased by Lawrence (the late Ruth) and Dorothy (Peter Sammon) and many nieces and nephews. Eileen was an elementary teacher for over 31 years, spending most of her career at Maple Ridge Senior Public School in Powassan. She was an active woman, preferring the outdoors, skiing and snowshoeing in winter months and enjoyed golfing, tennis and gardening in the summer. She enjoyed travelling in retirement with friends and loved the arts. She spent countless hours painting beautiful artworks, and also enjoyed the theatre and musical productions. Upon relocating to Wasaga Beach in 2011 to be nearer the children and grandchildren, she became a member of Marlwood Golf Club, the Blue Mountain Foundation for the Arts, various book and movie clubs and other social gatherings. Eileen was one to wear her heart on her sleeve, would help anyone in need, held to her convictions and was a strong and independent woman. She will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Friends are invited to join her family at the Carruthers & Davidson Funeral Home – Wasaga Beach Chapel, 509 River Road West, Wasaga Beach on Saturday April 12, 2025 from 2pm for the Memorial Service at 3 o’clock. Reception to follow. If desired, a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society would be appreciated by her family.
