BUNSTON, Eileen
December 7, 1927 – February 24, 2025
With heavy hearts we say farewell to a much-loved woman, Eileen Bunston (Born Eileen Alice May Montgomery). Eileen passed peacefully in Collingwood, Ontario after living a long and full life of 97 years.
Eileen was pre-deceased by her husband Robert John (Bob) Bunston after 62 years of marriage. Having lived such a long life, she represented the end of an era where she was pre-deceased by her parents and siblings, in-laws and many friends and family members.
Left saddened by her loss are her son Dean and wife, Debbie (Dabous), daughter Debra (Peter Exner), granddaughters Denise Bunston (Gary Weatherall) and Dawna Bunston and much-loved great grandsons Jakob, Mason and Kieran and special niece Nancy Swift and her family.
As she faded in recent years, Eileen became increasingly frail, although we often saw glimpses of her sweet personality and good humour. Throughout her life, she was self-less and easy-going, with a down-to-earth, no fuss personality that made her easy to be with and always feel so loved by.
Born a very large baby, Eileen’s family gave her the nickname, “Babe”, after baseball great Babe Ruth and it stuck with her throughout her life. She was “Babe” to Bob and Auntie Babe to her nieces and nephews.
Eileen was a long-time resident of Wasaga Beach, where she and Bob built a home after their marriage. She loved the beach house as well as spending winters in Florida with Bob. An avid bingo player, we were all used to seeing her bag of dabbers in the front hall, ready and waiting for the next bingo night.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Chartwell Georgian Traditions for their special care.
We are thankful for her peaceful passing. The family will honour Eileen privately, as she wished.
ON THOSE DAYS
On those days,
when you miss someone the most,
as though your memories,
are sharp enough,
to slice through skin and bone,
remember how they loved you.
Remember how they loved you,
and do that,
for yourself.
In their name,
in their honour.
Love yourself,
as they loved you.
They would like that.
On those days when you miss someone the most,
love yourself harder.
