It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Edward Peter Wiens on January 18th, 2025. Ed passed peacefully with his wife Donna Beaton and daughter Emily Wiens by his side. He is remembered for his rich Tenor voice, and years as a professional singer with the Elmer Iseler Singers, Toronto Mendelssohn Choir, and the CBC TV show ‘Hymn Sing” in the 1960s. Ed was the kind of guy who could build anything without blueprints and skate circles around hockey players half his age. With his kind, easygoing nature, and surprisingly good fashion sense for someone raised in rural Saskatchewan, Ed was somebody that everyone loved even though he was cooler than all of us and we knew it. Ed was born on April 4th,1942 in Rabbit Lake, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm in Glenbush. Technically one of a dozen middle children, as he was the 6th of 14 children born to Peter and Maria (nee Derksen) Wiens. He will be remembered fondly by his family, including his son-in-law Rowan, as well as his many living siblings: Lily, Anna, Vi, Beth, John, Vic, Naomi, Melita, and Dina; and will be joining his predeceased siblings: Herb, Rose, Reuben and George. A Celebration of Life will take place in the spring.
Donations to the Elmer Iseler Singers or to the University Health Network Foundation may be made in Ed’s memory.
