Edward Donald Kearns was born on October 31, 1928, to Raymond and Susan Kearns in Scarborough, Ontario. As their only child, Don, as he became known, was a loving son, who decided to attend Moody Bible Institute at the young age of 17. He worked his way through school by washing windows on the tall buildings in Chicago. While there he also met the love of his life, Miriam Shuell, who married him on 28 Aug 1951. Their first residence was a small trailer in Urbana, Illinois, where Don received his Degree in Communications. During that time their first son Timothy Donald was born, and in 1955 the three of them set out for Brazil under what was then Unevangelized Fields Mission. They ran a boarding school for nationals in Cururupu, and during this time they were blessed with the birth of twin sons, Daniel Raymond and Stephen Edward. After 15 years in Brazil, Don decided to bring the family home and take a pastorate at Scarborough Baptist where he served for 15 years. In 1983, with the boys out on their own, Don and Miriam were called to serve at the Bible College in Georgetown, Guyana, and were there for 13 years. Returning to Scarborough in 1996, Don served as Associate Pastor at Parkway Bible until his promotion to heaven on 8 April 2025.
Don was preceded in death by his wife Miriam and son Daniel. Those left to cherish his memory include Timothy(Cindy) Kearns, Stephen(Georgie) Kearns, Daniel(Karen) Kearns, 9 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and several nephews and nieces.
Don’s life was truly one of serving his Creator, his family, his church, and his friends. He extended God’s love and grace to whomever he met.
