It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of Ed Jakuboski, on March 27, 2025, at
Belleville General Hospital.
For Ed’s entire career he worked with the Toronto Police Service as an ordinary police constable. But he was anything but ordinary. He was pure of heart and did not tolerate this world’s political forces that tried to sway him from living a life dedicated to standing for truth, kindness and compassion. Having come from an impoverished upbringing, Ed had an insight into thedowntrodden and people warmed to him for his compassionate approach as an officer. With Ed’s passing, we have suffered the loss of a remarkable man and the world needs more of his kind. Ed drew in a strong circle of friends who called themselves “The Boys”. This friendship began in high school, at Toronto’s Parkdale Collegiate, and has continued to the present. Ed cherished his life-long friendship and he enjoyed their many fishing trips, camping trips and football pool competitions. Ed met his wife, Judy, in 1978 on April Fool’s eve. But he was no fool. He recognized that he was destined to spend his life with Judy and they were married in a simple ceremony at Toronto City Hall in 1981 on Friday the 13 th . Ed was unfazed by the superstitious date for the wedding and he continued his life with Judy for close to 47 years from when they met until his parting. Ed loved nature, all animals, especially dogs, and he also loved to garden. When the gypsy moth infestation killed a large swath of trees on his property in 2021, Ed replaced the dead trees with a wildflower meadow. He wanted to attract all manner of creatures and birds to the garden because he loved to live in harmony with nature. He had a gazebo built next to the garden so that he could sit with Judy, drink a brew, and view nature.
As per Ed’s wishes, he was cremated and there will be no funeral service. He wanted everyone to keep their memories of him as he lived his life, full of fun, wittiness, and tuned to nature. Ed will be deeply missed and a celebration of life will be held at a later date.
