Edgar Payne
August 20, 1948 – May 6, 2025
Edgar was born to Cyril and Rita Payne on August 20th, 1948, in Eastern Tickle on Fogo Island. Edgar passed peacefully at James Payton Memorial Hospital on May 6th, 2025 after a brief battle with cancer.
He was predeceased by his father Cyril, mother Rita, brothers Calvin, Baxter, and Ross, brother-in-law Glen and Wayne , son-in-Law Daryl, and nephew and niece Shawn and Jennifer.
Leaving to mourn are his children Brian (Tracey) Candace and Crystal (Brian Jr.), many grandchildren and great granddaughters Everleigh and Camreigh; sisters Pauline and Rebecca; brother Gary; sister-in-law Gertie and a large circle of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Edgar spent thirty plus years of his career with CN Railway retiring in 2003 at the age of 54. He was proud to be a part of the Last working crew in Newfoundland. Edgar had a passion for cooking, a love he shared with his family. He also enjoyed cabin trips, boat rides, cod fishing, hockey which he played until the age of 70, and of course a good hand of cards.
In keeping with Edgar’s wishes cremation has taken place. The service with be on May 9th, 2025 at St. George’s Anglican Church in Gambo. Time to be announced. A celebration of life will be held after the service at the Fire Hall in Gambo.
