Obituary of Ed Blackmore
It is with great sadness that we announce the peaceful passing of Edward Raymond Blackmore in his 88th year on March 8th, 2025, following a battle with Covid-19, pneumonia and Influenza A.
Born on August 13th, 1937, in London, Ontario, Ed was the son of the late Beatrice Mary Blackmore (née Toal) and Warren Basil Blackmore. Predeceased by Leo Blackmore (Madeline), Helen Jacobs and Francis Blackmore. Survived by brother-in-law, Wilf Jacobs. Ed was a devoted husband to Irene, the love of his life and best friend for 59 years. He was the proud father of Michele Specht (Michael) and Christopher (Karen Conway). He was a loving grandpa to Steven, Brendan and Ethan Specht. He was a dear brother-in-law and uncle to many nieces and nephews.
Ed graduated from Catholic Central High School, King’s College and Teacher’s College. Ed became a much-loved Teacher and Vice Principal at Regina Mundi College, for most of his career, earning the respect and admiration of colleagues and students alike. He became a lifelong friend to many colleagues and students from his days there.
Ed had many talents. He loved playing hockey and continued until he was fifty years old. In later years, he loved watching his grandsons play hockey. He was very musical and played the piano and guitar by ear. To everyone’s enjoyment, he often played at Hootenannies in the sixties and around the bonfire at the cottage. He enjoyed singing in the church choir for many years.
Ed’s faith was very important to him. He was a parishioner of St Michael’s Catholic Church and served his parish family as a social convenor and choir member for many years.
He was a very funny man and loved telling jokes. Ed was fun loving and enjoyed having a few drinks and butter tarts with friends and family. His friends were very important to him. He was always planning social events and enjoyed his regular Thursday Beers and Friday Lunches with his buddies.
One of the most important things to him was travel. He organized many student trips, wine tours and trips with his family. Over the years, they travelled all over the world. He was involved in many clubs including PROBUS, 300 Social Club, the Knights of Columbus, and the RMC Alumni Association, just to name a few.
Ed lived for his family and friends, and maintained many, cherished, life long friendships which sustained him throughout his life. He reached out to many with openness, kindness and generosity. His adventurous spirit and zest for life brought much joy and happiness to our lives. His love, wisdom and gentle guidance will remain with us forever.
Many thanks to the nurses, doctors and staff on the 4th floor of University Hospital for the excellent care and compassion he received. Special thanks to Dr. Patrick Teefy for all of his excellent care for many years.
The family will receive visitors at John T. Donohue Funeral Home, 362 Waterloo Street at King Street, on Wednesday, March 26th from 7:00pm to 9:00pm. A Funeral Mass will be held at St. Michael’s Church, 511 Cheapside Street, on Thursday, March 27th at 10:00am. Interment to follow at St. Peter’s Cemetery.
