EAGLE, Gerald “Bruce”
June 14, 1933 — February 14, 2025
Gerald “Bruce” Eagle, 91, passed away peacefully on February 14th, 2025, surrounded by the love of his wife of 65 years and his three daughters.
Born in The Pas, Manitoba, Bruce was raised in Vancouver, BC., where he discovered sports, playing football, rugby, and track and field in high school and university. He remained an exceptional athlete his entire life—enjoying water-skiing, snow-skiing, curling, yoga, golf, hiking, working out daily, and even doing 80 push-ups on his 80th birthday.
After graduating from UBC with a degree in Commerce, Bruce spent his career in menswear—first as a Woodward’s menswear manager, then as a sales representative for Copley, Noyes, and Randall—a high-end men’s wear line that afforded him the ability to treat his family to several memorable Hawaiian holidays over the years.
Above all else, Bruce loved his family and was a dedicated husband and best friend to Mary; father to his three daughters: Laurie (Mike) Koss, Jane (Ed) Smith, and Kim Steeves (Jesse); grandfather to Amber (Mauricio) Naranjo-Smith, Jenny (Matt) Byrd, Sarah (Levi) Lentz, James (Marika) Koss, Daniel (Ell) Steeves, and Amanda Steeves (Arthur); great-grandfather to Maurice, Kaila, Lucas, Harper, and Nora.
Besides being pre-deceased by his parents, Billie and Wes Eagle, and sister, Jackie Eagle, he was also pre-deceased by most of his friends whose companionship he missed over the years.
Bruce was also an avid Bridge player, a racehorse breeder/owner, a woodworker, a gardener, a billiards player, a model ship builder, a carpet bowler, and a family-renowned baker.
One of his proudest accomplishments was his 40-year devotion to the spiritual practice, A Course in Miracles, as a student and volunteer facilitator—helping countless people find their way to peace through the practice of love and forgiveness.
Despite living a long life to the age of ninety-one, his family and remaining friends all wish he could have lived longer. We will miss his great sense of humour, his laugh, his baking, his wisdom, and the wonderful example he set for a life well-lived.
A Celebration of Life will be held on SATURDAY, MARCH 29, 2025, from 3-5 PM at the SUNRISE VILLAGE CLUBHOUSE, 1260 Raymer Avenue, Kelowna. All are welcome to attend.
