The family of Larry Rosevear is saddened to announce his death on May 7, 2025, at Parkwood Institute in London, Ontario, following a brief illness. Surrounded by family, Larry celebrated his 89th birthday in March with two of his favourites, chocolate cake and red wine. A son, husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, uncle, friend & colleague, Edgar Larmer (‘Larry’) Rosevear was special to many. Sharp-minded until the very end, sharing detailed stories from decades past, with an uncanny ability to recall exact dates, knowledge on vehicles new and old, and even exercising his right to vote in his final week, Larry never skipped a beat.
Beloved husband of Helen for 48 years (deceased, December 2024). Predeceased by his parents, J. Augustus ‘Gus’ & Audrey (Larmer), and sister Jacqueline Vaneyk. Brother to Arlene Yeo (Murray), Lorraine Delaney, Kenneth Rosevear (Evelyn), Esther Devolin (Keith) and brother-in-law, John Vaneyk. Father of Lori Anne Pritchard (Kevin) & Clarence Larmer Rosevear (Robin), stepfather to David Farmer (Aleda), Caroline Leonard (Doug) &. Grandfather to Sami (Phil), Brady (Alicia), Bryanah, Leah (Blake), Sarah, Christopher (Aimee), Andrea, Jesse (Danielle), Amber (Joe) and Nicole (Taylor) and great-grandfather to Sybil and Orson and to Harrison and Jacob.
Larry was born at Bowmanville Hospital, on March 30, 1936, and grew up on a farm outside of Tyrone, Ontario, where he was an avid helper on the farm. His intelligence and love for learning led him to skip two grades, resulting in all 6 years at Tyrone Public School being taught by the same teacher before moving on to Bowmanville High School. In 1953, Larry began driving a truck for a family friend, Keith Davey, hauling shelled peas and corn to Stokely Van Camp canning factory in Whitby for 4 years to save up for college.
Larry graduated from Kemptville Agriculture College in 1957, becoming a well-known and respected member of the agriculture community. He stayed closely connected with his classmates throughout the years, regularly keeping in touch and joining together at their 66th reunion last October in Keene.
Larry worked for Farm Credit Canada in Walkerton, Ottawa and Edmonton. It was in Walkerton where Larry had a farm and became a father, and in Ottawa where he met Helen. He moved to Edmonton as Assistant Vice President of Farm Credit in lending. He earned his AACI (Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute), PAg (Professional Agrologist), PLE (Precision Land Evaluation), and CAC (Canadian Agrology of Canada). He moved back to Ontario and worked for National Farm Management Services as General Manager of Eastern Canada, then worked for Deloitte as a farm appraiser before becoming a partner in Knowles, Lambert, Canning, Rosevear & Associates Ltd. (Real Estate Appraisers & Consultants), which became VALCO Consultants.
Larry continued to be active with Ontario Farmland Trust until his death. Until late last year, in his “spare time,” he delivered Coffee News to coffee shops and was a volunteer driver for the Canadian Cancer Society. He was active with the Antique Car Rallies, a member of the Thunderbird Club, and a proud Thunderbird owner who enjoyed the community of enthusiasts. Another joy of Larry’s was gathering with his neighbours and friends for lunches, walks, and other social occasions.
An avid square dancer his entire life, beginning with the Junior Farmers Organization as a teen, and carrying his passion into his adult life. Larry and Helen danced together for 25 years, dancing locally in London and across Canada. Travel was a second love for the two; together, they visited many provinces and states, Europe and the United Kingdom, Alaska and Yukon.
A visitation will take place on Sunday, May 11, 2025, at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Road North, London, Ontario from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. We welcome you all to Larry’s last dance, on Monday, May 12, 2025, at Westview Funeral Home and Cremation Centre, 709 Wonderland Rd. North, London Ontario. A funeral service will be conducted at 12:00 p.m., with visitation taking place one hour prior from 11:00 to 12:00 p.m. A reception will follow the service. A livestream of the service will be available for those unable to attend in person.
