It is with great sadness and heavy hearts, that Robert & Laura Selby, of Utopia, announce the painful passing of their beloved son, Dylan David Keith Selby, on Wednesday February 19th 2025, at Toronto Western Hospital, with his family surrounding him. Dylan was born on December 8th 2005, at RVH, in Barrie ON, with a very rare potassium gate gene mutation, called KCNB1.
This rare neurological disorder, over the period of Dylan’s 19 years, had slowly affected his physical and medical health, mostly due to the challenging and untreatable seizures. Dylan was always such a happy, go lucky, charming young man. He loved easily and wholeheartedly, making those who knew him, love and admire him deeply, in return.
Though Dylan’s soul has returned to his creator, Dylan’s journey does not stop there. With the help of Toronto Western Hospital and Gift of Life, Dylan has continued to live on, in six recipients, who needed an organ or tissue donation, for a second chance at a better and happier life. That’s what Dylan would have wanted. He can now go out and explore the world, through the lives of those he has helped, in ways he was unable, while he was still with us. Dylan will also help in the research to further the understanding of KCNB1, in hopes that one day, there will be a cure or at the very least, treatment that works.
Dylan is deeply missed by his sister, Cadi; his brother, Liam; his grandparents, Keith & Laurel Williams, of Lisle; Camilla Selby (David Selby 2014), of Egbert; his aunt, uncles, many cousins and friends who became family.
A Celebration of Dylan’s Life will be held at Drury Funeral Centre on Saturday, May 31st from 1 – 4 p.m. with memories shared at 2:30 p.m.
In lieu of flowers, you are welcome to donate to any of the following, in Dylan’s name to:
