In his 95th year, Duncan passed away peacefully at PRHC after a short illness. Devoted husband to the late Jean (Fitzgerald), father of Lorie (Len Pannolino), Brian (April), Gary and Robert (Lori). Beloved grandfather to Megan (Andrew Ball), Matthew McRae (Christina), Julia Pannolino (Chaiston Morrison), Claire Pannolino (Matthieu Daoust), Frances Pannolino (Rield Boshti); Alexander McRae (Caro Tremblay) and Ian McRae (Lauren Girardi). Adored great grandpa to Violet and Stella Ball, and Duncan and Norah McRae.
He was the son of the late Duncan and Annie May McRae, brother of the late Angus, Cathy Allen (late Bill), John (late Mary) and Theresa Millett (late Max). Brother-in-law to Colleen Davie (Al), and deceased members of the Fitzgerald family: Don and Leona, Joan, Vince, Hugh and Rita, and son-in-law to the late Madeline Fitzgerald. Loving uncle to many nieces and nephews who he was always so happy to see.
Dad was born in Montreal, Quebec and later moved to the family farm in Glen Robertson, Ontario, and then on to Otonabee as a teenager. He was a humble, kind man who worked two jobs to provide for his family, and coached hockey and softball for many years. He lived his life reflecting the values of kindness, compassion and consideration for others every day, and regarded everyone as a potential friend. He and Mom loved travelling, and enjoyed trips throughout Canada and the U.S. His favourite saying was “I wonder where this road goes,” and off they would travel.
A special thank you to Dad’s coffee buddies, friends and neighbours who have livened his days over the years. And our deepest thanks to the staff at PRHC for their exceptional care and compassion, particularly the Palliative Care team who looked after Dad. We will miss you terribly Dad, but are so grateful to have had the best father for as long as we had. In lieu of flowers, donations to the PRHC Foundation or the charity of your choice would be appreciated by the family. Family and friends will be received at the Highland Park Funeral Centre, 2510 Bensfort Road, Peterborough, on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 10:30 a.m., followed by a chapel service at 12:00pm.
