Mansfield, Douglas St.
Clair of Addington Forks, Antigonish Co., NS,
died March 1, 2025, surrounded by his loving
family.
He was born
on July 22, 1949, to Ruby and Roy Mansfield of Caledonia, Queens
Co.
He moved to
Antigonish as teenager with his older brothers, where he started
working for Teasdale’s Pulp and Lumber. He worked as a
machine operator and woodsman for over 40 years before settling into
retirement. He then directed his attention to creating a perfectly
manicured yard.
Antigonish is
where he met the love of his life Mary, and they raised 5 children
together. Doug was a simple and honest man who found enjoyment in the
simple things of life. He loved being outside, watching for wildlife,
and spending time with family. He was the family
‘fix-it’ man and could fix any vehicle or complete
any house repair project without skipping a beat with his natural
ability. He loved passing many of these lessons on to his
children.
He is
survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Mary; 5 children: James,
Leisa (Tim), Geoff (Heather), Fred (Rachael), and Matthew
(Stephanie); 7 grandchildren: Alyssa, Dakota, Jacob, Lucas,
Xander, Anna, and Zoe; brothers: Roger, Ronald, Frankie,
Robert, Raymond, and Edward; sisters: Carolyn and Margaret;
sister-in-law Helen, special niece Johanna (Kenton); and many other
nieces and nephews.
He is
predeceased by his parents Ruby and Roy, 8 brothers and 7
sisters.
The family
would like to extend a sincere and heartfelt thank you to his caring
and empathetic doctor, Martin Eckhart, the wonderful palliative care
team and amazing nurses at VON Antigonish.
Cremation has
taken place. A private family service will be held at a later
date.
Donations in
memory of Doug, may be made to the to the Palliative Care Unit of St.
Martha’s Regional Hospital or VON Antigonish.
Funeral
arrangements are under the direction of C.L. Curry Funeral Home,
