Douglas Miller Obituary
MILLER – Douglas
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Douglas Miller in his 91st year, peacefully, with family by his side at the Brantford General Hospital. Predeceased by his parents Roy and Marguerite. Beloved husband of Verna (nee. Bartlett/Adams). Loving brother to Joan (Leo) Bingleman. Proud father of Karen (Darwin) Witty and Neal (Sue) Miller, and stepfather to April (Rod) Soltau, Brad (Heather) Adams, and Amber (Brad) Bootsma. Cherished grandfather of Janice, Paul (Mallorie), and step-grandfather to Sydney, Noelle, Grace, and Molly. Great-grandfather to Eloise and Cora.
A lifelong farmer in Jerseyville, Ontario, Doug dedicated his life to his agricultural pursuits. In the year 1992 he was named Hamilton-Wentworth’s ‘Farmer of the Year’ by the Ontario Federation of Agriculture. Doug was well-known in the community for his innovative and often creative approach to farming. A jack-of-all-trades, Doug was a reliable wealth of knowledge, able and willing to fix, or even build, anything that was needed to get the job done. Doug spent his life in two places… either in the field, or on the water. When he wasn’t busy working on the farm, he enjoyed days spent at the family cottage in Pointe Au Baril, fishing, boating and sharing meals with friends and family. An accomplished cook and amateur sommelier, Doug was a purveyor of smoked salmon, and buckwheat pancakes. Doug spent many years travelling, often with his sister Joan by his side. Eager to escape the cold and snow, many winter months were spent on warm Hawaiian beaches. Doug will be fondly remembered by many extended family, neighbours, and friends for his quiet wisdom, and eternal willingness to lend a helping hand.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Jerseyville United Church, or a charity of your choice in Doug’s name would be appreciated. Cremation has taken place. Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of Doug’s life at McCleister Funeral Home, 495 Park Road N. Brantford on Sunday March 23, 2025 from 2 pm-4 pm. A private interment ceremony will be held at a later date. Condolences and memories may be shared with the family at www.mccleisterfuneralhome.ca
