Douglas Michael Barnlund
October 7, 1948 – December 16, 2024
It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Douglas (Doug) Michael Barnlund at the age of 76. Doug passed away peacefully at Betel Nursing Home in Gimli, Manitoba, with his daughter Kristy and the Betel Angels at his side.
Doug is lovingly remembered by his daughter Kim (Joe) Vodopivec and grandsons Matthew and Ethan, and Lore Titley and grandson Hendrix, and Kristy (Jamie) Cole, Jordan and Jessica; his brother Richard (Allison) Barnlund; and his sister Gail Amos.
He was predeceased by his wife, Carol, parents, Russell and Anne Barnlund; and his son-in-law Rob Titley.
Doug spent his early years on a farm in Sanford, followed by time in Rathwell and Treherne, where he formed lifelong friendships. His greatest passion was long-haul trucking, a career he pursued with pride and dedication. Doug and Carol relocated to Texas, where he drove for Anderson Trucking. One of his proudest achievements was being honored for completing 1 million miles of safe driving.
As his health declined, Doug returned to Manitoba. He spent his final years in Riverton and at the Gimli Nursing Home, where he received exceptional care and formed close bonds with the wonderful staff.
Doug requested that there be no formal service. Instead, he asked that his ashes be spread on one of his favorite open roads in British Columbia—a fitting tribute to a life spent chasing the horizon.
Doug will be deeply missed by his family and all who knew his kind and gentle spirit. May he rest in peace, forever on the open road.
