With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of Doug Vaughan at the age of 75 on Saturday, March 15, 2025. Doug was a devoted partner, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who touched the lives of many with his kindness, generosity, and unwavering love for his family. He will be deeply missed by his partner of 25 years, Betty Guttormson, his daughters Daina (Mark Rye) and Brandi (Stuart Doherty) and his stepsons Patrick Guttormson (Sandy Owen) and Mark Guttormson (Kathy Martin). He was a proud and loving grandfather to Neve, Mae, Ronan, Meryl, Nola, Zach, Morgan, Victoria, Jamie, Chris, Danny, Will, and Kevin, and a cherished great-grandfather to six great-grandkids. Nothing brought him greater joy than cheering on his grandchildren from the sidelines—he was their #1 fan in every game, match, and event. Doug is survived by his brother Gary Vaughan (Elaine) and will be deeply missed by his many nieces, nephews, extended family, and countless friends. He was predeceased by his mother, Ruth Vaughan, his sister, Eleanor (Jack Nichol), and his brother, Keith Vaughan (Carol) .
A true outdoorsman, Doug found peace in fishing and hunting, always seeking adventure in nature. He also loved spending time on the beach, whether it was relaxing by the water or soaking in the sun with his family. Doug’s happiest moments were when his family was gathered together under one roof. He loved hosting big family events, especially during the holidays, where laughter, love, and togetherness filled the room.
For many years, Doug owned the Home Hardware in Keswick, serving his community with pride. He was a dedicated volunteer firefighter and a founding member of the Uptown Keswick Business Association, always looking for ways to give back. His passion for sports was evident in the many teams he sponsored over the years through the Hardware store. He was also a longtime member of the Sutton Curling Club, where he treasured the comradery and spirit of the sport.
Doug’s warmth, love, and legacy will live on in all who knew him. He will be forever missed.
A Celebration of Life will take place at Egypt Hall, 6756 Smith Blvd, Sutton, on Tuesday, May 6, 2025 from 12:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
